Hi guys! My name is Albulena and I am currently a trainee for EPN at the Manchester office.

We all want to have adventures and discover new places during our stay abroad, however sometimes we might feel a little homesick. Here are some of the tips that help me during my first weeks in the UK:

  1. Make a list of all the places you want to see (this will help to remind you of all the fun things you will get to do)

  1. Check all the meet-ups and events online that will be held near you – it helps not to spend too much time alone or in your room.

  1. Go out for a walk or a run (I prefer the former but getting some fresh air can help and you might discover some new parts of your new city/town)

  1. Stress clean/tidy up your room: it will help you clear your mind and also establish a routine.

  1. Try to cook/bake something for yourself from your home country. Being in a new country doesn’t mean you have to ignore where you’re from or try everything new. I love to make some delicious potato rosti cakes that remind me of my dear Switzerland.

  1. Make yourself a playlist of all the songs that make you feel calm and happy.

7. Attend a concert of your favourite singer/group (I went to BTS’ concert and Andrea Bocelli). Studies show that going to a concert can drastically increase your well-being!

8. Don’t be too hard on yourself: it’s really normal to feel sad or miss home. Try not to feel disappointed or discouraged – it will pass.

9. Keep in touch: if you’re stuggling with homesickness or just feel a bit down, get in touch with EPN and can give you extra tips, listen or just have a cup of tea!

I hope these tips will help you like they did for me!
